Newport, PA is located along the Juniata River in Perry County; approximately 25 miles west of Pennsylvania’s state capital. The downtown is listed on the Registry of Historic places and serves as the community town square and site for street fairs, parades, and holiday celebrations. Thriving small businesses provide a variety of shopping and dining opportunities. An art gallery and home of the Perry County Council of the Arts anchors the town square, and a community senior center provides a variety of important services to residents. NRPS was instrumental in completing downtown improvements projects such as building façade programs and a Tree Vitalization program that resulted in our streets being lined with suitable shade trees. The sidewalks are filled with commemorative bricks where residents memorialize loved ones or honor family members. Utility poles are donned with commemorative banners of service members or celebrate the changing seasons.
The town is surrounded by unparalleled natural beauty and Little Buffalo State Park is a popular destination for visitors and residents of the community. Several local wineries, farm markets and the Perry County Fair Grounds provide a destination for visitors and locals. NRPS is engaged in several initiatives to support our local businesses and to enhance Newport’s standing as a tourist destination.
NRPS assisted the Perry County Historical Commission in sponsoring and placing historical markers around the community. A plaza located at the intersection of 4th and Market Streets is home to several markers that commemorate the town’s heritage and important historical events.
NRPS achieves success when we partner with local government, the faith community, human service organizations, business groups, first responders, the public school and others who share our desire for a thriving community.
