Main Street Project

Keeping with our mission to enhance the quality of life in the community, NRPS has partnered with the Perry County Economic Development Authority’s Main Street Program.

The Main Street Program is a community-based approach to revitalize downtowns. Investing in Perry County’s downtowns creates pride, good economic health, support to local businesses, and it brings the community together. Downtowns reflect how the community sees itself, and it all starts with a time-tested framework to grow and transform them.  The Main Street Four Point approach is a comprehensive strategic plan to help revive the downtowns.

1) Organization means building leadership. We want to ensure broad community engagement and forge partnerships across the county. Everyone working together is a crucial part to renewing our downtowns.

2) Design is creating an inviting atmosphere. We want to celebrate historic character and foster people-centered public spaces while improving the physical image of the downtowns as a quality place to shop, work, walk, invest, and live.

3) Promotion allows unique communication through storytelling. We want to support the “shop-local” experience. Creating excitement through means of marketing an enticing image to shoppers, investors, and visitors allows for more customer traffic.

4) Finally, Economic Vitality allows for us to cultivate entrepreneurship by building a diverse economic base while catalyzing new businesses. Long-term solutions are developed by analyzing market forces.

NRPS has formed a committee of Board members and community members to assist the progress of the Main Street Program in Newport. We have helped with the inventory of commercial buildings along with community clean-up days. NRPS continues to promote the facade improvement grant program that has been used by several Newport businesses. The NRPS partnership with the Main Street Program is one of many examples where community partnerships result in a sustainable thriving community.
