NRPS and its partners have worked diligently over the years to make Newport a better place to live. The following list highlights some of our accomplishments.
Planed and implemented community events such as Discover Newport, Canal Day, Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, National Night Out, Movies in the Park and other activities for the benefit of our residents and to attract visitors to Newport.
Revitalized Veterans Memorial Park including the entrance, playground, pavilions, basketball and tennis courts, baseball and softball fields, a new concession stand and park expansion to include a nature area.
Created a Façade Improvement Program which awarded approximately $50,000 in matching grants to Borough residents who made improvements to their buildings’ facades.
Supported efforts that resulted in the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission including the Borough in the national Register of Historic Places.
Cooperated with Tri-County Housing Development Corporation to obtain funding to refurbish the Butz building at One South Second Street, described as the “keystone” of Newport’s downtown revitalization.
Received a Townie Award from the Pennsylvania Downtown Center for restoration efforts.
Assisted the Borough in obtaining federal funds for Newport’s Streetscape Enhancements Plan for improvements to the town square.
Implemented the Buy a Brick campaign to raise funds for Streetscape Enhancements.
Donated funds to the Perry County Council of the Arts “Newport 1885” mural by artist Biruta Hansen depicting the Pennsylvania Canal.
